THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Yesterday at CBR, we reported that actors Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have finally been officially cast in the film. Cotillard will play "Miranda Tate, described as a Wayne Enterprises board member who's eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father's philanthropic work." Gordon-Levitt will take on the role of "John Blake, a Gotham beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner James Gordon."

Cough.

A far cry from the stream of rumors about Talia Al Ghul and the various characters linked to Gordon-Levitt. In a statement, director Christopher Nolan said, "When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes as no surprise that you would want to repeat the experience. I immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again." It seems the director has more tricks up his sleeve as he confounds the rumor mill and their guesses at the film's plot. Maybe he's the Riddler. Meanwhile, the lads at Bleeding Cool may have found the comic book origin of John Blake:

Release date: July 20th, 2012

THE AVENGERS

IGN reports that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige talked with D23, the official Disney fanzine about the post-"Avengers" film slate. "Thor will go off into a new adventure, and Captain America will continue to explore the modern world in another film of his own. We hope that holds true for the characters appearing in that film – Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the spy organization, S.H.I.E.L.D. – all of whom are more than worthy and capable of carrying their own films," he tells the magazine. "And, we've got a lot of other characters we're prepping and getting ready for film debuts: the world of martial arts, these great cosmic space fantasies, Dr. Strange, and the magic side of the Marvel Universe. There are many, many stories to be mined." Did he say martial arts? Does that mean ... gasp ... a movie version of "Shang -Chi, Master of Kung-Fu?" Meanwhile, Spinoff Online's Kevin Melrose has a theory about the Skrulls appearing in the film based on a line of trading cards coming out soon."It's not indisputable evidence, obviously, but why else would Marvel and Upper Deck release a card set based on a four-decades-old storyline if it didn't tie into something new and marketable?" he asks.

Directed by Joss Whedon & starring everybody, release date: May 4th, 2012

CONAN

Star Jason Momoa tells Digital Spy that he's not trying to replicate Arnold Schwarzenegger's take on the character. "A lot of people are like, 'What's it like being in the shoes of Arnold?' but it's not a remake of the 1982 film," says the actor. "There's just such a bountiful amount of Robert E. Howard stories. So it's taking a couple of Robert E. Howard stories, the same legendary character and throwing him through that." He also looked to another famous interpreter of the Cimmerian for inspiration. "Both my parents are painters and I grew up doing that and being an artist and I saw the Frank Frazetta paintings when I was a boy. They're just badass, you know what I mean? He's got a chick on his leg and he's standing on a bunch of skulls with this sword and he's just ripped. It's cool! I'm a big kid inside."

Release date: August 19th, 2011

GREEN LANTERN

Cosmic Book News got its hands on the new issue of "Green Lantern" a little early and scanned in the preview page for the film. This month, it's the Corps:

The page also reveals a number of Green Lanterns appearing the film, including Boodikka, Stel, and The Green Man. Meanwhile, Angela Bassett briefly talks with Iamrogue.com about Amanda Waller:

Starring Ryan Reynolds, release date: June 17th, 2011

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

Spinoff Online has another poster for the film that makes you wonder what is going on in the marketing's art department:

While I like January Jones's midriff as much as the next man, is this the only photo of her as Emma Frost that they have? Also, what is going on with James McAvoy's face.

Release date: June 3rd, 2011

ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN

Jeph Loeb tells D23 (again, via IGN's preview of the next issue) a little bit about the animated series. "What we're doing is putting together the coolest Spider-Man animated series that we can. This is a first step in what we want to define as Marvel animation and will capture the look and feel of the comics as the movies have captured the look and feel of the comics," he says. The show itself will deal with "Peter Parker in high school, trying to balance his life between being a normal teenager and becoming the ultimate Spider-Man. This is the story of Spider-Man trying to become the best hero that he can. And work his way up to the major league guys like Captain American and Iron Man and The Avengers."

Airdate: TBA

WONDER WOMAN

Lynda Carter tells Monster and Critics (via Comic Book Movie) that there might be a part for her in the series, should it make the NBC line-up. "I've talked to David E. Kelley, who's a brilliant writer, a number of times and we're hoping to plan something," she says. Start your speculating!

Airdate: TBA

"UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN, SARAH ..."

Sadly, the BBC announced the death of actress Elisabeth Sladen yesterday at age 63 of cancer. She's known to "Doctor Who" fans the world round as Sarah Jane Smith, traveling with the Doctor from 1973 to 1976 and popping up for the odd appearance over the years until her formal return to the show in 2006's "School Reunion." The episode was so successful, it led to a spinoff -- "The Sarah Jane Adventure" -- and the actress coming out of a semi-retirement. She will be missed. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of more classic "Who" obits.
