Marvel Comics learned on Wednesday, August 22nd, that American Color Graphics, a printer in Sylacauga, Alabama, refused to print ALIAS #1 due to the "offensive" nature of the contents. The company literally stopped the presses as the new crime comic by Eisner-Award-winning writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos was printing. But the day was saved when Quebecor of Montreal, Canada, agreed to publish the first issue of the debut title of MAX Comics, Marvel's new mature-themed imprint.
"I'm literally stunned," stated Bendis. "I can't imagine that things like this still go on in the world. There's nothing in ALIAS that you wouldn't see on The Sopranos. Perhaps they reacted this way because the story is in comic book form."
Due to the quick actions of Quebecor and Marvel's Manufacturing Department, ALIAS #1 will go on sale as planned on September 5th.
