THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

The Los Angeles Times Company Town blog reports there may be tension between Warner Bros and producing partner Legendary Films. "While Legendary was a 50/50 partner on 2008's 'The Dark Knight,' which grossed more than $1 billion worldwide and sold 16 million DVDs, the film financing and production company has for months been trying to secure a similar ownership stake in the sequel," they write. The article points to Warner Bros's long term plans to use the DC Comics superheroes as a replacement for the "Harry Potter" franchise cash cow. Co-ownership would eat into the proposed bottom line. These sorts of things are usually decided before a movie goes into production and it really won't effect "Rises," but could shape the way the companies approach "Man of Steel" and "Godzilla," both planned co-productions between the studio and Legendary.

Release date: July 20th, 2012

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

Superhero Hype has a round-up of new photos and TV spots of the film, including this rare shot of Zoe Kravitz as Angel Salvadore:

Also, one of the lads at Comic Book Movie notes that tickets are available at Fandago just in case you want to secure your opening night seats.

TALENT

As Spinoff Online reported on Friday, Zack Whedon has been tapped to adapt the Boom! Studios miniseries "Talent" into a feature. "Created by Christopher Golden, Tom Sniegoski and Paul Azaceta, the supernatural thriller centers on college professor Nicholas Dane, the sole survivor of a plane crash who's pursued by a secret group after he discovers he possesses the abilities of the passengers and crew who died," they write.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

Okay, I consider the photos found at On Location Vacations (via Latino Review) to be supreme spoilers, even if the plot point they reveal is known to Spidey fans around the world. I even had to short-code the links because the URLs contain the spoiled story thread. If you're anxious to see how the film re-envisions a classic moment from the character's origin, click through on either one.

Release date: May 28th, 2012

ASTERIX

Bleeding Cool has a few photos of Gerard Deparideu dressed as Obelix in the upcoming "Asterix" film:

Gah! Alongside him is actor Edouard Baer, who plays the title character.

Release date: 2012 in France

SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK

CBC News has a report on the retooled show. "It's hard to make these kinds of changes. It's hard to part with people you've been working on. It's all difficult stuff. It's up, it's down. It's like being on a trampoline some of the time but it's what we do," says producer Michael Cohl. The revamp features a beefed-up storyline for The Green Goblin and a new song from Bono and the Edge of U2. "[We wanted to] give it sort of a sturdier framework in terms of story, in terms of relationship between the characters [and] bring some more warmth and humour to the proceedings," adds new writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

Opens: June 14th, 2011 ... maybe

WONDER WOMAN

NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblat tells Entertainment Weekly why the pilot did not go to series. "You look at what you have, what you need,  and it just didn't seem to fit in with what we were doing," he says. "We did what was best for the schedule."

Release date: TBA

THE WALKING DEAD

Before the Trailer (via Comic Book Movie) reports that zombie casting has begun in Atlanta:

Airs: Fall 2011

"THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!"

Of course, if you're "The Highlander" franchise, that tagline became inaccurate with the sequel and downright comical with each new film. It seems we're headed back to the beginning as plans are afoot for a Justin Lin directed reboot. I guess there can be only one ... again! That said, I'd love to sign-up right now to write the remake of "Highlander 2: The Quickening." Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of getting my head chopped off.
