X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

Fox (via Collider) posted this featurette about the film to YouTube:

Meanwhile, Comicus.it has an interview with visual effects group Rhythm and Hues, who worked on digital set extensions, Emma Frost's diamond form, Angel's wings, and Mystique's transformations. "On this film, the mandate was to make everything as real and grounded in reality as possible. [Visual effects designer] John Dykstra referred to it as making everything feel analog and as if photographed in the scene," they explain. "We tried to mimic all of the anomalies that would happen when things were photographed like the distortions and aberrations caused by the old anamorphic lenses that were used during filming and make sure our digital elements integrated well into the scenes." Lastly, The Hollywood Reporter calls the first half hour of the film "arguably the best hour of Marvel Comics-derived filmmaking among the torrent of it that's cascaded across screens in recent years. Audacious, confident and fueled by youthful energy, this is a surefire summer winner for a wide global audience." They praise the rest of it, too.

Release date: June 3rd, 2011

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

According to Superhero Hype, the production may be headed to Newark, New Jersey. They quote a Twitter post from the city's mayor, Cory Booker, who writes, "Met with the producer and studio team for the next Batman Movie ... Great people! They hope to film scenes in Nwk. Holy Brick City Batman! POW!" Those sound effects will chase Batman more doggedly than the Joker.

Release date: July 20th, 2012

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER

In a Los Angeles Times Hero Complex article about the chestmeats of summer, director Joe Johnston explains why the transformation from dud to dream is so important to the Steve Rogers character. "He is essentially Everyman, a 98-pound weakling who is chosen for the rebirth program not for his physical attributes but because of who he is as a human being, with his sense of justice and compassion," he says. "It's crucial that we know and love Steve as the kid who's been bullied and rejected all his life so we'll appreciate and relate to who he is as Captain America."

Starring Chris Evans, release date: July 22nd, 2011

DAREDEVIL

Director David Slade made an interesting post to his Twitter account (via Comic Book Movie) on Saturday: "Daredevil is ongoing, official news will break next week.. Can't say more." Hmmm ... very interesting, indeed.

Release date: TBA

THE HOBBIT

Director Peter Jackson announced on Friday that actor Orlando Bloom will return to Middle-Earth as Legolas. "I'm thrilled to be working with Orlando again. Funny thing is, I look older—and he doesn't! I guess that's why he makes such a wonderful elf," wrote Jackson. While some purists might be balking at the addition, I don't think it's all that crazy. I always assumed he was at the Battle of Five Armies even if Tolkien hadn't mentioned him or thought of the character at the time he was writing the book.
