CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a GQ article is giving the film's star Chris Evans a higher profile. In the article, writer Edith Zimmerman discusses a post-interview limo ride in which the actor "was even more fliirtatious than before, touching my arm and my knee." She adds, "There was always the question of how much of it was truly Chris Evans, and whom I should pretend to be in response." Wow. Here's my cynical thought: someone is angling to get her story turned into an HBO series. Nobody seems to be crying foul and it seems to be good for the film, so bully for all involved. Meanwhile, Superhero Hype has a few new stills from the movie, including this rather awesome shot:

Starring Chris Evans, release date: July 22nd, 2011

GREEN LANTERN

The CBR review is up, confirming the film is a muddled confluence of ideas despite a fairly good ensemble. "Watching Hal learn how to control his powers is fun; watching Hector devolve into a grotesque, sweaty-noggin villain is enthralling. Parallax and Hector make great bad guys and the film's treatment of its characters is only frustrating because they spend so little time with them," writes our own Josie Campbell. "A truly good summer blockbuster shines through this messy info-dump of a movie, and despite numerous flaws, the action is genuinely enjoyable." Meanwhile, MTV News highlights a few Easter Eggs fans should look out for when seeing the film:

Starring Ryan Reynolds, release date: June 17th, 2011

THE AVENGERS

On Location Vacations reports that Samuel L. Jackson has been spotted in Albuquerque, New Mexico for filming. The site was also sent this photo of Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, and Mark Ruffalo discussing battle tactics with Motley Crue:

Directed by Joss Whedon & starring everybody, release date: May 4th, 2012

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

One of the members of the "Dark Knight Rises" community on Facebook (via Comic Book Movie) snapped the first photo of Christian Bale on set:

Apparently, he is in costume.

Release date: July 20th, 2012

THE HOBBIT

Deadline reports that "Sherlock" star Benedict Cumberbatch will lend his voice to Smaug. While unexpected, it's a worthy choice as he'll bring something different to talking dragons. Granted, the only other talking dragons I know of in film history are Sean Connery's from "Dragonheart" and "Pete's Dragon." Deadline also reports that actor Luke Evans has been cast as the bowman Bard, "a skilled archer, and the heir of King Girion of Dale." The character plays a large role in the second film of the series.

Release date: December 14th, 2012 & December 13th, 2013

JOHN CARTER (OF MARS)

The Los Angeles Times Hero Complex has the first officially released pieces of production art and a chat with director Andrew Stanton. Let's get to the art, first:

Holy crap, that looks awesome! Since the concept has been mined by other filmmakers and writers over the last century, Stanton explains his approach to the material. "I got intrigued by the idea of treating it as if it really was the source material in the historical sense of the term. What if this really happened? That kind of opened my eyes. I suddenly had a fresh way to see it," he says. "And it goes back, in a way, to the way we take things in when [we were young readers]. When I was a kid I really wanted to imagine it as if it was a real sequence of events that took place on the surface of Mars in another century."

Directed by Andrew Stanton, release date: March 9th, 2012

BATMAN LIVE

Various sites, including Collider, are linking to this behind the scenes footage of rehearsals for the upcoming stage show:

Release date: July in the UK, August 2012 in the US.

WEEKEND BARBECUE

Cue up that Loverboy track and get me a margarita -- It's the weekend! It's also Father's Day, which means I'll be manning the blender for some mix drinks and the new grill at a family barbecue on Sunday. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of the week to come.
