THE AVENGERS

"You have to respect the realities of the other movies", director Joss Whedon tells Total Film. "But visually this is very much my own thing."

I suspect dialogue will also be his own thing. Get ready for Thor to make some insane cultural references. Meanwhile, two "Avengers" related special features from the "Thor" DVD have surfaced online. First, Bleeding Cool points to the full version of "Marvel One Shot: The Consultant":

And Spinoff Online spotted the "Road to the Avengers" featurette:

Directed by Joss Whedon & starring everybody, release date: May 4th, 2012

SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL

The Man of Steel Facebook community brings us another photo of star Henry Cavill practicing his Superman poses:

Directed by Zack Snyder, release date: June 14th 2013

RED 2

Deadline reports that Bruce Willis hopes to shoot a sequel before he begins "Die Hard 5." With original director Robert Schwentke off making "R.I.P.D.," the search is on for a new director. "They've just begun casting the dragnet for directors on that film. Names like Breck Eisner are being floated, but other shooters are being considered." I don't know which piece of this story is more dispiriting: Breck Eisner on a "Red" sequel or the existence of another later-day "Die Hard" movie.

Release date: TBA

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

Chris Zylka, who plays Flash Thompson in the new film, tells Collider about working with director Marc Webb. "He is bringing something completely different, that people are going to love so much. It's very character-driven. It's a wonderful franchise that is already successful, but I think it's going to live up to the expectations, completely," he says. "One of the nice things about Marc is that he's an actor's director. He doesn't demand. He helps, or plants ideas in your head that work. He's very calm. One of the most important things while filming is being comfortable and calm, and his warmth and his whole aura that he has about him is really comforting and calms you down a lot."

Release date: May 28th, 2012

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Tom Hardy, now the seemingly official spokesman for the film, tells CinemaMovie (via MTV News) that fan expectation was something he had to embrace in taking on the role of Bane. "So many people love him. And when you step into that role - you are going to fail," he says. "And be judged." It seems that he embraced the expectations fairly well.

Release date: July 20th, 2012

THE LONE RANGER

According to Deadline, there's a new wrinkle in the effort to keep the film afloat: star pressure. "Insiders tell us that Johnny Depp, who's attached to play Tonto, really wants to make 'The Lone Ranger' but won't do it without [Gore] Verbinski directing," they write. Disney cancelled the film when it choked on the $275 million budget. Verbiniski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have cut that number down to $215 million, but Disney would like an even smaller tab. I still think its absurd that westerns should cost this much money.

Release date: December 21st, 2012

"YOUR FAILURE WILL BE COMPLETE!"

So, Lucasfilm has confirmed the changes to "Return of the Jedi" are real. While that leaves plenty of people screaming "NOOOOOO!!!!" It means I'll be putting that cash toward the Blu-Ray set of "The Lord of the Rings." I'd also say it speaks to a greater problem in Lucas's thinking. He's fighting a war against people's memories. Older fans want the movies they remember and are willing to pay a premium for them, but his willingness to alter the films -- and bury the beloved versions -- is just pig-headed, especially when there's money to be made in giving people what they want. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of an CGI Alec Guinness prancing around the Death Star.
