KICK-ASS 2: BALLS TO THE WALL

Mark Millar tells The Los Angeles Times Hero Complex that he hopes to get the sequel off the ground, but may lose director Matthew Vaughn in the process. "I’d imagine, if this happens any time soon, that Matthew will produce and possibly co-write, like George Lucas did with 'The Empire Strikes Back' and hire a new director," Millar explains, citing Vaughn success since the first film. "But there's a window because the actors are all supposed to be in high school and if this came out after 2013, for example, that window would have closed. I obviously know more than I can say, but I think people will be pretty happy with the conversations we've been having." Ah, that Millar, always pitching and always teasing.

Release date: TBA

R.I.P.D.

The lads at Comic Book Movie spotted this photo of Marissa Miller and James Hong on set:

The model plays the earthly manifestation of Jeff Bridges's veteran dead cop while Hong plays the Ryan Reynolds character in his earthly guise.

Release date: June 28th, 2013

CAPTAIN AMERICA 2

Chris Evans offers The Playlist a potential year for the Cap sequel. "They may wait until 2014 until they release the next Cap. Marvel has a lot of balls in the air, they aren't going to cannibalize their films," he says. His comments refer to Marvel's larger plan that not only includes sequels, but new properties like "The Runaways" and "Antman" making their way to the big screen. Of course, Disney does have two 2014 Marvel related release dates on their schedule. Hmm ...

Release date: 2014?

LANGLEY HIGH

Superhero Hype reports that upcoming graphic novel will become a film thanks to Atlas Entertainment. The story centers on a "student from Langley High, the school that's located just 1.7 miles from CIA headquarters. After his father is captured in Russia and disavowed as an agent of the CIA, the student teams up with an undercover CIA agent teacher from his high school and ends up on a mission of revenge."

Release date: TBA

THOR 2

As Spinoff Online reported yesterday, Marvel is considering "Monster" director Patty Jenkins to succeed Kenneth Branagh in the director's chair. You may remember "Monster" as the film in which Charlize Theron exacted bloody vengeance on men across Florida. It was based on the real life story of Aileen Wuornos, who was as crazy as a Norse God exiled to Earth. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige tells Entertainment Weekly that the story will "primarily be the journey of [Thor], of he and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and how the new dynamic with his father (Odin, played by Anthony Hopkins) is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds." I guess that means the Rainbow Bridge will be rebuilt, then.

Starring Chris Hemsworth, release date: July 26, 2013

THE NYE INCIDENTS

According to Heat Vision, comic book creator and screenwriter Stuart Paul has been hired to adapt "The Nye Incidents" for a feature film. The comic book, co-created by well known alien enthusiast Whitley Strieber, follows a "seen-it-all and logical medical examiner whose faith in the rational is shattered when she runs afoul a brutal murder of a supposed alien abductee. The case puts her on the path chasing a serial killer working in the alien abductee community who may or may not be human." Alien serial killer? That's how this thing got sold.

Release date: TBA

TALKING DEAD

The "Walking Dead" post-game show has been confirmed, according to Spinoff Online. It will be called "Talking Dead" and feature "The Nerdist" host Chris Hardwick chatting about the episode of the zombies series that just aired.

Cough.

"Dissecting the moves of Rick Grimes and the remaining survivors after every episode is something I would be doing with my friends anyway, so the fact that AMC is actually paying to do so is a bonus," says Hardwick. I suppose that is a plum gig for the host, but will the fanbase really support a post-game show for a drama?

Airdate: October 16th, 2011

BLOCKBUSTER WEEKEND

Cue up a classic "Doctor Who" story and get me a rum drink -- it's the weekend! With Blockbuster proving to be useful, I have a few "Doctor Who" stories Netflix never bothered to make available and the option to return the disc in store. Sounds pretty sweet, but this experiment continues into the weekend ... not that I'll have time to watch all this "Who" with baby showers, UFC fights, an episode of new "Who" and a trip to the Los Angeles County Fair on the agenda. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of sunburn.
