IRON MAN 3

According to the Detroit Free Press (via The Hollywood Reporter), the film will shoot in North Carolina due to a more favorable incentives program. "The Hollywood studio had sought between $20 million to $30 million in incentives to film in Michigan, but the Michigan Film Office initially offered just $13 million, causing Marvel to launch talks with other states," they write. While the Film Office attempted to match the $20 million number North Carolina agreed to, Marvel chose the southern state because "it guaranteed the money whereas Michigan's deal was contingent on future legislative approval." Apparently, any incentive in the $20 million range must be put before the state's governing body. Michigan previously lost "The Avengers" because of similar restrictions. These tax incentive situations are heady business and only come to light on high profile films like superhero sequels.

Release Date: May 3rd, 2013

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

The lads at Comic Book Movie hear word that Cillian Murphy, who played Jonathan Crane in the previous two films, has been spotted on set. They quote a user of the Superhero Hype Messageboards going by the handle "MagnusRex", who posts:

"Cillian Murphy is returning in TDKR. You can see him at Union Station in Los Angeles, but at least that's where I saw him earlier on my way back home from taking spy photos.

I couldn't take a picture of him because there are a ton of security guards, but he's definitely there.

You can take this as 100% legit fact."

I suppose it makes sense for him to return one more time; hope this rumor proves true.

Release date: July 20th, 2012

THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN: THE SECRET OF THE UNICORN

Deadline reports that the crowded Christmas calendar has caused a few movie to shift release dates. "Tintin," long slated for a December 23rd release, will now open a few days earlier on the 21st. I know that will make it easier for me to catch it between mad dashes to the mall for presents.

Directed by Steven Spielberg, release date: December 21, 2011

AREA 52

Summit Entertainment has picked up the rights to the Image comic created by Brian Haberlin and Clayton Henry, according to Spinoff Online. The story concerns itself with a "storage facility in Antarctica where top-secret artifacts and alien weaponry are stored after Nevada’s infamous Area 51 is finished testing them. When a dangerous alien escapes containment, an Army nurse and a team of misfits must stop it." Spinoff notes that this is the third time the comic has been optioned, but maybe it will have better luck at Summit. Those guys seems to be good at adapting material like "Red" and "Twilight" into movies people want to see.

Release date: TBA

THOR 2

Now that possible director Patty Jenkins has spoken about her potential involvement with the sequel (don't you just love the conditional tense?), star Chris Hemsworth offers The Los Angeles Times Hero Complex a few words about the directorial candidate. "She has a great take on the story and a solid grasp on that kind of universe," he says, noting she's already done plenty of research via the pages of "Thor" comics. Hopefully, she'll give the Lady Sif and the Warriors Three more to do, too.

Starring Chris Hemsworth, release date: July 26, 2013

R.I.P.D.

Celebuzz has new photos from the set, including this shot of Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges in what I assume to be their squad-car:

I always knew there was something strange about TV/VCR repairmen.

Release date: June 28th, 2013

THE WALKING DEAD

Spinoff Online spotted this new trailer for the second season:

Wow, has there been a moment on this show where Lori has been sympathetic?

Premieres: October 16th, 2011

WHERE IS THE DOCTOR?

I know I haven't mentioned "Doctor Who" much since it came back a few weeks ago ... I guess I've been underwhelmed by the stories of late. They only seem worthwhile if River Song is in them ... and since this week's season finale is called "The Wedding of River Song," I guess it'll at least end on a high note. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of the long wait for the "Doctor Who" Christmas Special.
