THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Co-screenwriter Jonathan Nolan chuckles with IGN about all the set-photos and videos. "It was great because we were working [on the new TV show 'Person of Interest']. So that was the only way I was able to get down to set was to watch it on YouTube!" He laughs. J-Nolan suggest the overall vision of the new film is too large to encompass in online slivers. "I think the goal with those movies and the thing that Chris is doing and just kicking ass with is making a movie so big that you couldn't possibly fit all of it. Even in tiny little pieces, you still wouldn't get a sense of the scale of it. I saw a little bit the other day, and the scale is just vast."

Release date: July 20th, 2012

THE AVENGERS

In partnership with Entertainment Weekly, Marvel has unleashed a slew of information about the film, including some uncomfortable-looking headshots:

Um, yeah ... in the accompanying article, Mark Ruffalo discusses Bruce Banner's dynamic in the group. "He's the most mild-mannered guy, but a total loose cannon. No one wants to set him off except for Iron Man, except for Downey, who just wants to see him pop," he says. "They're a lot alike in a strange way. They're both these kind of scientists who are mavericks, kind of renegades. Banner, for all his mild-mannered mythology, he's still the dude who was testing some pretty crazy s–t on himself, so he has that rebel streak in him." Meanwhile, Spinoff Online offers up some more satisfying pictures from the EW media deluge, set photos like this one:

Now that's more like it.

Directed by Joss Whedon & starring everybody, release date: May 4th, 2012

SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL

The film's unofficial spokesman, Michael Shannon, tells The Los Angeles Times Hero Complex about acting on Krypton, which will be realized using a combination of actual sets and CGI. "I had thought it was just going to be green screens everywhere and we would just be pretending everything," he explains. "There's quite a bit of detail they're building and putting into it. It's very helpful. The less green screen, the better -- I don't think you'd be able to find an actor on Earth who wouldn't have that sentiment." Nice to know Krypton will be realized, at least partly, the old fashioned way. Expansive CG vistas just aren't that impressive if it looks like the actors are completely disconnected from it.

Directed by Zack Snyder, release date: June 14th 2013

G.I. JOE 2: RETALIATION

"I get to beat up The Rock twice, or I try," says Ray Stevenson, everybody's favorite member of the Warrior's Three (okay, my favorite member). The Coventry Telegraph's Geek Files (via Comic Book Movie) asked the "Punisher: War Zone" veteran about his upcoming roles. "I get to play this cool, gnarly pyrotechnic guy," he says of the "Joe" character. Since he'll be battling with The Rock's Roadblock, I wonder if he'll get a body massage?

Release date: June 29th, 2012

GREEN LANTERN: THE ANIMATED SERIES

According to Superhero Hype, the new series will premiere at New York Comic-Con on Saturday, October 15th at 10:30 AM. Executive Producer Bruce Timm will be on hand to answer questions about the show. If you're going to NYCC, make the effort to attend. Timm is always a witty and informative speaker. I've learned tons about animation from the handful of times I've interviewed him or talked after screenings.

Airdate: 2012

WEEKEND RESPITE

Whew! Get me a White Russian and cue up a crappy old movie -- it's the weekend! I'll admit that this week seemed to just crawl by, so I'm looking forward to a few days of rest and relaxation. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of the week to come.
