In a month where Marvel Comics has made the press rounds for cost-cutting layoffs both at the executive level and within the publisher's rank and file employees, it seems there is also growth-related news in the cards for the company. CBR News learned this week that Marvel has promoted seven-year company veteran Ruwan Jayatilleke to the position of SVP Associate Publisher.
Over his years with the House of Ideas, Jayatilleke has held a number of jobs and been involved with a wide swath of projects and initiatives. He served as an administrative figure and comics editor for Marvel's line of "Halo" comics coordinated with Bungie Software. He worked with Stephen King and his publishers on the mobile phone motion comic "N." And recently he has served as producer for Marvel media and motion comics projects like "Thor & Loki: Blood Brothers" as well as working with Disney's magazine divisions on Marvel-related products.
Jayatilleke started at Marvel in 2004 after many years as an editor at Scholastic Books. After starting with work on Marvel's brief line of prose projects, he took a sucession of titles including Vice President of Development, Senior Vice President, Strategic Development-Acquisitions & Licensing and most recently Senior Vice President, Development & Planning.
Stay tuned to CBR this week for more on this promotion and all the news out of Marvel.
