Warner Bros. Games and Rocksteady ring in the holidays with a trio of downloadable "Arkham City" Challenge Maps

This winter, Warner Bros. Games and Rocksteady Studios are ringing in the holiday season in style -- by giving you a prime opportunity to bust some more criminal heads with DC Comics' Caped Crusader.

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, the company announced via its official "Arkham City" Twitter feed that it is bringing a trio of new downloadable Challenge Maps to "Batman: Arkham City" on December 20. The maps will definitely be available for both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, and will likely be available for PC gamers as well.

The first of the three maps takes place in the Batcave. Here, Batman will have to outsmart evildoers on his home turf, using his stealth and strength to overcome the odds. There's no word on whether or not the defenses scattered throughout the Batcave will somehow play against the Dark Knight, but it'll be interesting to see what hazards he'll have to overcome.

Jokers Carnival is the second map. Originally offered exclusively through Gamestop, this area takes Batman to an amusement park overtaken by the Joker's men. Here, you'll have to brawl your way through a series of make-up-covered fiends.

Finally, there's the Iceberg Lounge, which was also offered as an exclusive item for pre-order, this time through Best Buy. Here, Mr. Freeze wanders through the icy-cold hallways, setting traps that will turn the unfortunate into human popsicles. As Batman, gamers will have to think their way through these scenarios to eventually overcome the frozen villain.

At this point, there is no word on pricing, but $6.99/560 Microsoft points sounds about right, since that's about what the Nightwing and Robin DLC packs previously sold for.

"Batman: Arkham City" is available now for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and OnLive.
