THE WOLVERINE

JoBlo.com refutes a rumor first posited by Moviehole concerning another delay in production. "Spoke with a source close to the production who says that there are no new delays and the schedule for the film is the same as it has been for the past few months, when it was slated for a 'spring 2012' start date," writes JoBlo's Mike Sampson. "Our source says there is no official start date at this time but pre-production is moving ahead at its original schedule." Well, at least until the schedule drops out from under them again.

Release date: 2013?

AKIRA

Garrett Minds, a Garrett Hedlund fansite (via Bleeding Cool) obtained a blurb about plot of the westernized version of the beloved Japanese manga series and feature length anime. You might want to brace yourselves:

Kaneda is a bar owner in Neo-Manhattan who is stunned when his brother, Tetsuo, is abducted by government agents led by The Colonel.

Desperate to get his brother back, Kaneda agrees to join with Ky Reed and her underground movement who are intent on revealing to the world what truly happened to New York City thirty years ago when it was destroyed. Kaneda believes their theories to be ludicrous but after finding his brother again, is shocked when he displays telekinetic powers.

Ky believes Tetsuo is headed to release a young boy, Akira, who has taken control of Tetsuo’s mind. Kaneda clashes with The Colonel’s troops on his way to stop Tetsuo from releasing Akira but arrives too late. Akira soon emerges from his prison courtesy of Tetsuo as Kaneda races in to save his brother before Akira once again destroys Manhattan island, as he did thirty years ago.

Um, yeah ...

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Gary Oldman tells MTV News what became of his Gordon mustache:

Release date: July 20th, 2012

THE AVENGERS

Jeremy Renner talks with Collider about his "Avengers" experience. "I don't know how you put that many characters in a movie like that. It's immense. But, with that, you pass the baton. You get to work with very few of them 'cause everybody's got their own thing going on. Someone's in the air, flying around. I'm on the ground, shooting a bow and arrow. There are a lot of things happening," he says. "I have no idea what that movie looks like. Zero idea. Most of the time, I have a good idea of how it's going to turn out because I've seen so much of it, but I have no idea."

Directed by Joss Whedon & starring everybody, release date: May 4th, 2012

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

So, after yesterday's Pez reveal of the Lizard, Russian fansite Spidermedia.ru (via Comic Book Movie) unveiled a production painting of the character in full creature form. I'll leave it behind the link just in case you're avoiding spoilers.

Release date: May 28th, 2012

THE INCREDIBLE HULK

Guillermo del Toro offers io9 an update on the series. "We delivered the screenplay to the network. I have a very specific idea of how to do it, and we're waiting for the green light," says the producer. "We know all the iterations of the Hulk pretty good. We've read all the essential stories, and we're then riffing on that. There are so many incarnations and ideas. Jeph Loeb — who did a good run [on Hulk: Grey] — is involved, and I love Peter David's Hulk. But there's really no part in that mythos that we don't know, so we are trying put our own personal spin on it." Consider del Toro's love of giant monsters, I imagine his spin will be interesting.

Airdate: TBA

GIVE US A SIGN

Undaunted by the lack of a studio, Hasbro has tapped Marti Noxon to write a screenplay for its potential "Ouijia" movie. According to Heat Vision, "Hasbro is still very keen on the Ouija project, and is unafraid to spearhead its own development, mirroring moves already made on the Monopoly project." I still think these board game movies are a step too far. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of the "Sorry" movie.
