After the first full-length trailer of "The Dark Knight Rises" hit the web earlier this week, Warner Bros. has released yet another tidbit to whet the appetites of Bat-fans before the holiday weekend -- this time involving powerhouse villain Bane. Hi-res still images of Tom Hardy as Bane hit online today, depicting the villain in the now-familiar mask, combat suit and boots. Originally printed in Empire Magazine, this is the first wide release of the hi-res images outside of the UK print publication.
While one photo of Bane comes from a scene that is easily recognized from trailers and production stills as he stand on the top of a combat vehicle, the still clearly shows the photograph in the villain's hand as Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart). The second hi-res image shows only Bane's back as, with arms outstretched, he faces Batman (Christian Bale) in front of an underground waterfall while a henchman looks on in the upper right-hand corner. No other major cast members were pictured.
While nothing new was revealed about the character or his plot in the photos, this week's release of the full-length trailer revealed some interesting scenes, including Bane blowing up a football stadium full of players and uttering the enigmatic phrase, "When Gotham is ashes, you have my permission to die." One CBR message board member even noticed Bruce Wayne walking with a cane in the reflection of a golden globe. Whether this is a nod to the famous "Knightfall" storyline where Bane broke the back of the Dark Knight or just a coincidence is anyone's guess, but fans will just have to wait until next summer to get their questions answered.
"The Dark Knight Rises" opens in theaters and IMAX July 20, 2012.
