Earth's Mightiest Heroes are making the leap to the third dimension, as Disney announced today that Marvel's "The Avengers" will be released May 4 in 2D and 3D.

The company also moved an untitled Marvel project from June 27, 2014, to April 4, 2014, but gave no indication what that film might be. A second unnamed superhero movie -- possibly the sequel to "Captain America" -- is still slotted for a May 16, 2014, opening.

Disney also revealed that the previously announced, but untitled, Pixar movie set for Nov. 27, 2013, is now called "Frozen."

Directed by Joss Whedon, "The Avengers" finds S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury recruiting a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster when an unexpected enemy emerges to threaten global safety. It stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Mark Ruffalo as the Incredible Hulk, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill and Stellan Skarsgård as Dr. Selvig.
