Zen Studios and Marvel Comics have really made the most out of their partnership. "Marvel Pinball" has become an enormous hit since its release in December 2010. The sequel, "Vengeance and Virtue," featuring the likes of Ghost Rider, Moon Knight and others, was released a year later for Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, and several Marvel tables are also available for the company's iOS app, "Zen Pinball." But with plenty of corners of the Marvel Universe left to mine, neither company is ready to call it quits just yet.
"Marvel Pinball" will see an even bigger and better year in 2012 with the already-released games being introduced across new platforms as part of Zen Studios' "Zen Pinball" package. The new frontiers, so to speak, include the Nintendo 3DS, the PlayStation Vita and the Wii U. But that's not all -- several new tables are in the works, and, according to Mel Kirk, Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing for Zen Studios, the new comers take a slightly different approach to the familiar pinball interface.
Speaking with Joystiq.com, Kirk said, "Everything that comes from Marvel next year will be bigger, not necessarily character specific. Hulk will be the main character, but it will be based on something in the Marvel storyline."
The Hulk-starring table, announced just before Christmas on the developer's forum, does not yet have a release date, but pricing should be around $2.99, the same price previous tables have sold for through Xbox Live and PlayStation Network.
While it's anyone's guess what type of storyline Hulk fans should expect (or whether fan favorite She-Hulk will make an appearance), there is the possibility that Zen could be working closely with Marvel on a series of tables based on the Joss Whedon-directed "The Avengers," since the film is slated for a May 2012 release. Hulk is a vital part of that group, alongside Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye and others.
For now, though, Hulk fans can certainly be excited that their favorite character will soon be smashing his way back into video games -- in pinball form. Just go easy with that tilt function...
"Marvel Pinball" is available now for Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. "Zen Pinball" is available in the App Store.
