THE AVENGERS

With the superhero epic nearly complete, Joss Whedon continues his media blitz, this time with Total Film Magazine. Courtesy of a detailed article summary at Comic Book Movie, Whedon speaks to his initial pitch for the film, why it's the definitive Hulk movie and subtle references to the comic book source material.

"This isn't the kind of movie where we're going to wink at the audience," Whedon told Total Film. "There's a great deal of humor and there are a couple of things where people will go, 'Oh!' if they're very into Marvel. Here and there I've thrown references, tiny things I remember [from the comics], but it's not one of those things where you look at and go, 'Oh, that guy and that guy! It's not 'Where's Waldo?'"

The director further clarified his goals for Earth's Mightiest Movie, saying he doesn't intend for "The Avengers" to merely be a first movie in a series.

"We DO give a nod to a greater problem than the one solved in this film," he said. "I'm a great believer in the idea that if you make the first one to be a 'first one,' then you have already failed. As much as we want to service the idea of a film in a franchise, I want this to be a satisfying film experience. I don't want people to go out saying,

'When's the next part?' I want people to say, 'Oh, I want to see that again!'"

He also definitively and completely debunked rumor of a Spider-Man cameo in the film saying, "There is no Spider-Man cameo in this movie!"

A Japanese ad for "The Avengers" has been floating around online and features a few new images of the cast.

Directed by Joss Whedon and starring everybody. Opens May 4.

ARROW

The Times Colonist reports Hatley Castle, located on Royal Roads University in Canada, will be used as a location in the CW's "Arrow." Hatley Castle is no stranger to superheroes wandering its halls, having previously been used as Lex Luthor's estate in "Smallville" and the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters in the "X-Men" films. The Times Colonist confirms the "Arrow" crew will shoot for two days on location at Hatley Castle.

IRON MAN 2

Artist Adi Granov via his Facebook page has posted an early concept design for the drones in "Iron Man 2" from 2008 or 2009. " At this point I was still working under the assumption that there was a person inside," Granov said.

A MUPPET MURDER MYSTERY

Here's an interesting tidbit from The Hollywood Reporter. A film called "The Happytime Murders" is taking on puppet noir in a film where puppets co-exist with humans as second-class citizens. Brian Henson is set to direct the film with a script by "Kung Fu Panda" writer Todd Berger and Katherine Heigl starring.
