As reported earlier today by Bleeding Cool, one week before the official launch of "Avengers Vs. X-Men" #1 on April 3, retailers across the country will receive their full orders of the event's inaugural issue. Although many retailers have opted-in to Diamond's Day Early delivery system to ensure stock is available the day before release, Marvel Comics has taken any potential uncertainty about having issues in time for launch parties and other promotions out of the equation by shipping the issue a full week before the drop date.
"With a record-breaking number of retailers participating in our 'Avengers Vs. X-Men' launch parties, we wanted to make sure that everyone had their copies on hand and in time for the special Tuesday release," Marvel Senior Vice President of Sales David Gabriel told CBR. "We couldn't be more excited with the overwhelming amount of support from our retail partners for the biggest event we've ever done. In turn we're guaranteeing that stores will be primed and ready as fans come flocking to their stores."
Preorders for "Avengers Vs. X-Men" #1 have already surpassed 200,000 and with Marvel promoting the event with everything from teasers to launch parties and signings across the country, it's understandable the publisher would want to ensure stock for its retail partners. During the House of Ideas panel at WonderCon 2012, the publisher outlined many initiatives for its digital comics platform to help benefit brick and mortar stores, such as a new Comic Book Cash offer and free digital copies of "Avengers Vs. X-Men" #1 and the first Marvel Infinite Comic bundled with print copies.
"We want to give fans added value wherever we can and to make sure fans come into the stores and buy the comics," said Director of Communications Arune Singh during the panel. "Marvel does not want to kill retailers. We love retailers and we want to give fans more reasons to come into comic shops."
