One fan's TMNT "memorial," posted on Facebook

Yesterday, CBR had reaction from one half of the creators of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on producer Michael Bay's recent comments regarding the upcoming live-action movie reboot's change to the team's origins. Namely, that the Turtles will now be members of an "alien race," an announcement Bay made during the Nickelodeon upfront presentations earlier this month.

"I would actually encourage TMNT fans to swallow the 'chill pill' Mr. Bay recently suggested they take, and wait and see what might come out of this seemingly ill-conceived plan," TMNT co-creator Peter Laird wrote on his blog, responding both to the origin overhaul and Bay's subsequent response to fan reaction. "It's possible that with enough truly creative brainpower applied to this idea, it might actually work. I'm not saying it's probable, or even somewhat likely… but it IS possible."

Yesterday, Laird's one-time creative and business partner Kevin Eastman weighed in via a post his Facebook page, and his comments were something TMNT fans did not want to read. "Sorry to have been away for so long--completely swamped with work--but it is some pretty exciting stuff," Laird said. "I had been invited to check out the TMNT film development by my friend Scott Mednick over the years, and a while back had a full look behind the curtian [sic] at what writers Appelbaum and Nemec, director Liebesman, and producer Bay are doing--and trust me--it IS AWESOME. I'm officially on board, and will share more as I'm allowed... thanks all!"

In addition to endorsing the proposed alien aspect of the upcoming film's title characters, Eastman's comment also indicates he is most likely the Turtle creator Bay has cited as working on the film, especially as Peter Laird has explicitly stated he is not involved in the movie's development.
