Although The CW's upcoming superhero drama "Arrow," based on DC Comics' Green Arrow, features nods to such comic characters as Black Canary and Merlyn, there had been no previous official indication that anyone other than Oliver Queen would appear in costume. However, star Stephen Amell recently teased, "Stay tuned. [...] It would be unfortunate if, being a comic book show, we didn’t draw from all the characters in the DC Universe."

At the trailer's 3:23 mark (watch it below), amid a barrage of rapid-fire images, flashes a shot of an arrow jutting through the discarded two-toned, and one-eyed, mask of Deathstroke the Terminator, apparently on the island on which Oliver Queen was stranded for five years.

Created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez, the mercenary and assassin debuted in 1980's "New Teen Titans" #2, becoming a regular foe of the super-team through its many incarnations while also making time to tangle with Green Arrow and many other DC heroes. The character made his television debut in a 1996 episode of ABC's "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman," played by Antonio Sabato Jr., and served as the primary antagonist during the first two season of Cartoon Network's "Teen Titans" (where he was voiced by Ron Perlman). He was most recently portrayed by Michael Hogan during the final season of The CW's "Smallville."

Developed by "Green Lantern" screenwriters Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim and "Fringe" co-executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, "Arrow" centers on Oliver Queen, a wealthy young bad boy who, after spending five years shipwrecked on an island, returns to Starling City with a mastery of the bow and a determination to make a difference.

The series stars Amell ("Hung") as Oliver Queen, Colin Donnell as Tommy Merlyn, Katie Cassidy ("Supernatural," "Melrose Place") as Laurel Lance, David Ramsey ("Dexter," "Blue Bloods") as John Diggle, Willa Holland ("The O.C.") as Thea Queen, with Susanna Thompson ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," "Kings") as Moira Queen and Paul Blackthorne ("The Dresden Files," "24") as Detective Quentin Lance.

"Arrow" will air Wednesdays this fall at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
