After announcing the series earlier this year and debuting interior pages with CBR last week, Marvel has released artist Adi Granov's variant cover for "Hawkeye" #1. The Avenger's solo series by Matt Fraction and David Aja is slated to debut on August 1, but CBR spoke with the writer several months ago about his and Aja's take on the popular archer.
"This series is very William Friedkin and early Brian Depalma. 'Rockford Files,'" Fraction said. "It's an early '70s urban grit story. You almost expect Hawkeye to come around the corner and bump into Power Man and Iron Fist from 30 years ago... This is very much a piece with [editor] Steve Wacker's other crime books like "Daredevil" and "The Punisher," -- but it's scored by Lalo Schifrin"
