This last weekend saw the launch of the annual Canadian National Expo, home to the Comic Book Expo 2004. PopImage.com's Jonathan Ellis and Ed Mathews were in attendance at the show and shared with CBR News a look at the convention this weekend. Today we present photos from Friday night and tomorrow we'll bring you more from Saturday and Sunday at the convention. Click the images below to enlarge.

We start out with some anime fans at the show. The crossover no one wants to see.

Even anime fans need their sleep. The X-Box makes an appearance in Toronto.

At major conventions around the United States and Canada there's almost always at least one retailer who sells swords, knives and medieval stylings. Well, that was not to be this year. According to Pop Image's Ed Matthews, a police raid at the stand on Friday night shut them down and while the swords were being cleared out Mathew's heard one law enforcemenet officer mutter "damn Americans" in response. Mathew's noted this retailer has exhibited in Toronto for at least the last three years and did clear customs with thousands of swords. Here's some pictures of that raid and a scan of an article about the raid from the local paper.
