Warner Bros. has released two teaser trailers for director Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" that debuted Friday in theaters with "The Dark Knight Rises."
The one-and-a-half-minute trailers are "teasers" in every sense of the word, juxtaposing almost-surreal images of a flying seagull, laundry fluttering in the breeze and a boy wearing a makeshift red cape with an adult, bearded Clark Kent (played by Henry Cavill) hitchhiking and working on a crab boat.
In one version Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner) intones, "You're not just anyone. One day you're gonna have to make a choice. ... You have to decide what kind of man you wanna grow up to be. Whoever that man is, good character or bad, is gonna change the world." In the other, Jor-El (Russell Crowe) says, "You will give the people an ideal to strive towards. They will race behind you. They will stumble, they will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders."
Opening June 13, 2013, "Man of Steel" also stars Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Ayelet Zurer as Lara Lor-Van, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Antje Traue as Faora, Harry Lennix as General Swanwick and Christopher Meloni as Col. Hardy.
In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question ‘Why am I here?’ Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.
