Rick Grimes topped all other comics characters in July, with "The Walking Dead" #100 landing in the #1 spot for monthly comic book salesAfter closing the gap in June, DC Comics took the number one spot from Marvel for July, commanding 32.71% of the market's Dollar Share and 36.55% Unit Share. Marvel didn't exactly stumble, however, clocking in at 31.96% and 35.45%, respectively.
However, despite Marvel and DC maintaining their #1 and 2 slots, it was Image Comics' "The Walking Dead" #100 that ruled the sales charts. With estimated sales of over 380K, Robert Kirkman's long-running zombie serial landed in the #1 sales position for monthly comics for the first time in its publishing history, though it is consistently the top-seller on the graphic novel charts.
Meanwhile, Marvel's AvX juggernaut rolled on with "Avengers Vs X-Men" #7 and 8 in positions 2 and 3 and tie-in series "AVX VS" #4 in rank #7. DC filled out the remainder of the top ten, with "Batman," "Justice League," "Detective Comics," "Green Lantern" and "Action Comics" continuing to perform strongly for the publisher. None of the "Before Watchmen" series remained in the top ten for their second issues, but the first issue of "Before Watchmen: Ozymandias" debuted at #6.
