One of the most legendary artists in the modern stable of Marvel Comics will be taking on one of the publisher's most legendary heroes this November when John Romita, Jr. draws "Captain America" for writer Rick Remender as part of the Marvel NOW! relaunch. The publisher shared this exclusive first look at Romita's pages with CBR News:

Recently, Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso spoke to the artist's work in his Axel-in-Charge column on CBR, saying, "John Romita, Jr. on 'Captain America' -- believe it or not, he's never done a run on the solo series." He added, "Rick and John's 'Captain America' won't walk down the road paved by Ed [Brubaker.] They're going to bring a new voice and sensibility to the series, and that's what I love. Everyone's coming in with big, bold ideas to really own their title."

Remender also spoke with CBR about the overarching goals of the series where he said, "[Cap's] taking down super villains and saving the world and in the midst of all of this, Steve Rogers the person gets lost in the shuffle. He is so exhausted but driven by this sense of duty that when this situation arises and things move forward, he's going to have a very big reaction. I'll deal with the fallout from things like 'Avengers Vs. X-Men' and how it affects Cap in 'Uncanny Avengers' where you're also getting the return of the Red Skull. This is going to be a very different thing and won't really deal with those ramifications so much. He's got his mind on other stuff in this adventure."

Of course, the series as a whole is headed towards Dimension Z -- the home of villain Arnim Zola. "It's a very serious and rough and tumble story with high stakes and dire threats," Remender said. "Because they're being created by the Bio-Fanatic, those threats have a fun, pulpy, B-Movie sensibility to them. I'm a big fan of writing that."
