BETHESDA, MARYLAND OCTOBER 1, 2004--When you sit down with "Finder" creator Carla Speed McNeil and ask her opinion on the First Amendment, she has a lot to say. But it's probably her character Jaeger Ayers who will have the last naked comment.

That's because McNeil is donating an original pin-up of Jaeger wearing nothing but the tattoo on his hand to join the several pieces of art and merchandise the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund will be auctioning off this weekend at the Small Press Expo in Bethesda, Md.

McNeil's original artwork has a loyal fanbase among the attendees at SPX, some paying as much as $500 for pages from "Finder" or her arc of Oni Press' "Queen & Country." So why is she choosing to donate this one-of-a-kind art, rather than reap the rewards for herself? "I may give all the erotica I draw to the Fund," McNeil said. "They're here for all of us."

"SPX is one of the most important conventions of the Fund year, and it's the only convention chartered exclusively to raise money for the Fund." CBLDF Director Charles Brownstein said. "Carla has been a great supporter for years and her contribution to this auction will doubtless help us participate in some briefs, legal briefs, that is."

But for those of you who don't have that kind of money to bid on the original art, a smaller, digest-sized version of Jaeger-in-the-buff can be found inside the collector's issues of Smut Peddler volume 2. These will be sold for a limited time at SPX, or can be special-ordered from select creators involved with the publication. "That way, everyone can have their own copy of Carla's fine, fine art," said Managing Editor Trisha L. Sebastian.
