In June, Marvel revealed a first look at Jerome Opena's "Avengers Vs. X-Men" #12 variant cover, featuring the Avengers and the new Nova defeated before the Phoenix. The figure inside the fire-bird was censored in white. However, an image sent out by Diamond Comics to retailers reveals the figure in Opena's 1/100 variant cover is actually a fully-Phoenix powered Cyclops.

"Avengers Vs. X-Men" #12, written by Jason Aaron with art by Adam Kubert, is the final issue of Marvel's mega-event and the reveal of Cyclops standing triumphant over the Avengers raises all kinds of questions about the conclusion of the event and the fate of Cyclops in Marvel NOW! The cover certainly implies that the leader of the X-Men is the big bad by the series' conclusion, but what role does Nova, the other central figure of the cover, play in the final chapter? More will undoubtedly be revealed later this week in "Avengers Vs. X-Men" #11, which hits stores on Wednesday, before the final chapter releases October 3.
