By this point, it's no new move for Marvel Comics to wrap long-running series one month to have them relaunch shortly after in a new iteration. But with the incoming shake-up that is the rolling Marvel NOW! relaunch, the publisher's moves are coming faster and more unpredictably.

Case in point: in the December solicitations released this morning, Marvel revealed that three titles were up on the chopping block, with "Amazing Spider-Man," "Wolverine" and "Captain America And..." all declaring final issues.

Of course, with the first two series it's almost a certainty that the comics will be back on the racks come January with brand new #1 issues. "Amazing Spider-Man" is wrapping after an anniversary issue #700, and Marvel will obviously continue with some regular series starring its most identifiable superhero. The question stands whether the next series will also carry the classic "Amazing" monicker or whether it will be replaced by an all-new tagline a la "All-New X-Men's" taking over for "Uncanny." Current readers will also be curious to see if longtime Spidey writer Dan Slott will stick with the webslinger once his #700 tale is done. Of course, rumors have swirled that the recent "Superior" teaser from Marvel could be tied to Spider-Man as well.

When contacted about the end of "Amazing," Marvel responded, "This is the one comic you must read on December 26 - and the story all begins in 'Amazing Spider-Man' #698."

For "Wolverine," there's been less pre-relaunch hype about the book's future, though like Spider-Man, Wolverine has become so ubiquitous in comic shops that it's unimaginable there will be no Marvel Universe solo title for the X-Man.

The Captain America title may be a different story, however. With Rick Remender and John Romita, Jr.'s upcoming relaunch of the character's core title, Steve Rogers will be spending some time outside of the regular dimension of earth. And while that's not necessarily a deal-breaker for a second team-up centered title for the hero, the chance that Cap is back down to one monthly remains a very strong possibility.
