Vigil Games co-founder and fan-favorite artist Joe Madureira has announced his departure from the "Darksiders II" studio.

Just a little over two months following the release of the highly anticipated sequel "Darksiders II," it was announced today that Joe Madureira, comic book artist and co-founder of development studio Vigil Games, has left the company. News of Madureira's departure showed up on his Facebook page, where the co-founder announced his plans to move on from the studio.

"Farewell and best wishes to all my brothers and sisters at Vigil Games!" Madureira said via Facebook. "After 7 long years and 2 hit games ('Darksiders' BABY!), I'm afraid the time has come for me to move on to new adventures. I could not be more proud of what we achieved, or the awesome people who helped build up this studio. I can safely say Vigil's future is in very good hands, so expect only awesomeness down the road. This feels surreal...I miss the place already."

Madureira had worked on a number of comic book projects, including "Deadpool: The Circle Chase" #1-4, several issues of "Uncanny X-Men" and his creator-owned "Battle Chasers" before he co-founded Vigil Games in 2005. Vigil worked worked closely with the publishers at THQ and released "Darksiders" in 2010, along with several pieces of downloadable content, before moving on to "Darksiders II," which released earlier this year.

“After nearly eight years at the studio, he has decided to take time out and focus on his passion for comics and other creative outlets," THQ said in a statement. "His departure will not have an impact on future DLC or game development. Joe was beloved by all at Vigil and THQ, and he will most certainly be missed. It is possible he may still consult with Vigil on future projects, and we look forward to that opportunity.”

While Madureira has not specified his next project, but details on "the next big thing," should release in next few months. However, the fan-favorite artist also had some good news for fans of his comic book work. "In the short term, I'm focusing on banging out a bunch of comics," he said. "Which should hopefully sate your hunger, you bloodthirsty savages!"

Madureira most recently drew the first arc of Marvel Comics' "Avenging Spider-Man" written by Zeb Wells in 2011.

"Darksiders II" is available now for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC with a November 18 release for Wii U.
