Despite its upcoming June release date, little concrete information is known about Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" Superman reboot. While most of the cast and characters have presumably been announced, it's possible there's one major character shift that hasn't been officially confirmed. Digital Spy reports a listing from the "Man of Steel" IMDB page that credits actress Rebecca Buller as a character named "Jenny Olsen" -- clearly a reference to (and possibly replacement character for) Superman's pal, Jimmy Olsen, who serves as photographer for the Daily Planet.
While the prospect of a female Jimmy Olsen is certain to set speculative fans abuzz, it's important to take this rumor with a massive grain of salt as IMDB has previously posted false or fabricated information. In CBR's recent interview with "Ultimate Spider-Man" Supervising Producer Cort Lane about the series, Lane commented on the inaccuracy of the popular movie database.
"You would not believe how much incorrect information is on IMDB about this show," Lane said of "Ultimate Spider-Man." "You have no idea. For Season 1, a whole cast list went up with actor names, and none of it was true. It's impossible to take it down because you have to wait until the episode airs so they believe you, and then they approve it."
Although IMDB may publish inaccurate information, it's clear that Buller is definitely in "Man of Steel" -- but it's completely unconfirmed whether her character's name is "Jenny Olsen." The following images pulled for CBR by Contributing Writer Chris Evans from the most recent "Man of Steel" trailer feature Buller and Lawrence Fishburne as Perry White running away from a crumbling Daily Planet. Although the images are blurry, Buller has something around her neck -- possibly an ID badge or camera.
CBR has reached out to Warner Bros. for comment on the rumor, but the studio had not responded by press time.
