Chris Pratt ("Zero Dark Thirty," "Parks and Recreation") is rumored to be "Guardians of the Galaxy's" Star-Lord.

Fresh off his turn in "Zero Dark Thirty," "Parks and Recreation" star Chris Pratt has landed the lead role in Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy," Deadline reports.

He'll play Peter Quill, the son of a human mother and an alien father who grows up as an orphan to become a NASA astronaut and then to assume the mantle of the interplanetary police officer Star-Lord. The studio had cast a wide net for the part, reportedly testing such actors as Lee Pace ("Pushing Daisies," "The Hobbit"), Jim Sturgess ("Cloud Atlas"), Joel Edgerton ("Zero Dark Thirty") and Eddie Redmayne ("Les Miserable"), and even pursuing Zachary Levi and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Directed by James Gunn, the space adventure is also expected to include Drax the Destroyer, the human resurrected in the body of an alien to combat Thanos; Groot, the extraterrestrial tree monster; Rocket Raccoon, the fearless genetically altered raccoon; and Gamora, the most dangerous woman in the universe. While none of those roles has been cast, there are of course plenty of rumors.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" opens Aug. 1, 2014.
