MAN OF STEEL

"Man of Steel" screenwriter David S. Goyer spoke with IAmRogue about his work on the Superman reboot, including where he drew inspiration from while crafting the script.

"I can’t say much about that other than Superman is an incredibly well known iconic figure and I think my challenge was to try to figure that out," Goyer told IAmRogue. "To a certain extent he is sort of cinematically frozen in amber, I mean a lot of people when they think of Superman they think of the (Richard) Donner films, and its been thirty-five years or so since the first Donner film came out. It’s been a long time and the world has moved on. I loved those movies and my goal was to figure out away to recontextualize him perhaps and figure out how to make him relatable. I thought, even though he is inhuman and he is an alien, if I can find a way to humanize him then hopefully I will have done my job and people will care about him. He is a tough character because he is invulnerable so you have to give him emotional vulnerabilities and hopefully that way he can become more accessible to the audience."

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS

TrekMovie.com has posted quotes from an interview with Simon Pegg contained in "Star Trek Collector's Edition Magazine," where the actor speaks briefly on his return to the role of Mr. Scott.

"He’s still very proud, and he thinks he owns the ship," Pegg told the magazine. "He’s very principled, and those principles define his role in the film. … Because I’ve got Scottish family, J.J. lets me put Scotishisms into the script. But one day he came up to me on the set and said, ‘Simon, we have to understand what you are saying!" So I pulled it back a little bit."

G.I. JOE: RETALIATION

Spinoff Online was at a recent press event for "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" where Dwayne Johnson spoke about the new take on the franchise.

“The first 'G.I. Joe,' as you guys know, came out and made a lot of money, but we all collectively felt that there was a better movie to be made,” Johnson said. "We’re going to remove the lasers. We’re going to remove the slickness of it, and we’re going to get back to respecting the mythology of 'G.I. Joe.'”

IAmRogue spoke with D.J. Cotrona, who plays Flint in the film, about the differing tone from "Rise of Cobra" and his character's relationship with Lady Jaye in the Joe mythology.

HERCULES

Spinoff Online's article on the "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" press event also saw Johnson speak briefly about his role as Hercules in the upcoming film adaptation of Radical Comics' "Hercules: The Thracian Wars."

"I was born to play Hercules, and I have loved and honored the mythology over the years, ever since I was a kid,” he said. “When I first broke into Hollywood, Hercules was one of the movies that I had -- not chased -- because I didn’t have the power to chase anything at that time, but always had in the back of my mind."

The actor also spoke about some other comic book roles he'd like to take on, including Black Adam in the rumored "Shazam!" movie.

"I would have loved that. But again, studios, they start to look at other properties and other superhero properties -- and what makes sense and what doesn’t, but there’ll be a superhero down the line."

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

Latino Review has posted a rumor that UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre has been cast as Batroc the Leaper in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." DEADPOOL

There's been a lot of "Deadpool" rumblings lately as Ryan Reynolds has been on the interview circuit for "The Croods," but Collider spoke with "Deadpool" screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick about the difficulty in getting the movie made.

"I think there just has to be a tolerance for the outlier," Reese told Collider. "There has to be a tolerance for this one project that’s not like all the other Marvel projects.

"'Iron Man was like that when it came out," Wernick continued. "Tony Stark and the hard drinking, fast-talking billionaire was very different from all the other Marvel characters. And look what it became. And we feel that way about' Deadpool.'"

RED 2

Collider spoke with "Red 2" producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura about what to expect from the upcoming sequel to "Red."

"It’s really fun, it’s really good. I think the best measure of it is that all the cast members that we added -- Byung Hun Lee, Catherine Zeta Jones, Anthony Hopkins, David Thewlis -- we added some really great actors and they really killed it," Bonaventura told Collider. "So I think we made, I say ‘a richer broth.’ And [director] Dean [Parisot] has a great sense of comedy and there’s just some laugh-out-loud funny stuff in it. I really love it, but you never know what it’s gonna feel like until you show it to an audience, which is next week."
