Boston Comic Con has announced increased security measures due to the bombings during the Boston Marathon earlier this week.

Boston Comic Con has announced an increase in security measures due to the bombings during the Boston Marathon this Monday nearby the Hynes Convention Center on Boylston Street. Following the bombings, the convention notified fans that the show would be moving forward as scheduled this weekend.

"We have been instructed to inform all attendees to enter through the Prudential Center as Boylston Street is currently closed," a convention representative said when contacted by CBR. "There will be a bag check prior to entering the Hynes Convention Center and more security guards in the building. We ask that all cosplayers refrain from bringing any prop weapons or accessories to help speed up the process and to please not wear their masks outside of the Hynes. Otherwise we hope that things will proceed as usual."

While fans have brought up concerns about the convention moving forward on the event's official Facebook page with some requests to postpone, representatives told CBR that "postponing the show was never an option, either we would have continued as planned or been cancelled."

In the initial statement released via Facebook saying the show would move forward as planned, show runners stated a portion of the convention's art auction proceeds would go to the Red Cross for the Boston Marathon victims' relief effort.

"We hope to stand as an example of the resilience of Bostonians in the wake of this horrific tragedy," the statement read. "The many statements of solidarity we have received from fans and guests alike have been very encouraging."

Boston Comic Con 2013 takes place April 20 - 21 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
