Popboy #1: Beauty in the abstract from Ashley Wood

Official Press Release

[Popbot #1]SAN DIEGO, CA -- Noted painter and illustrator Ashley Wood has followed his successful art book Uno Fanta: The Art Of Ashley Wood with a stylized work of fiction and illustration that explores the realms of creativity like none before.

Popbot takes place in a future unlike anything we've ever seen. It features a cat with 'NSYNC-like popularity in the world of pop music on the run from shady characters that demand payment on a large debt. He travels with Popbot, his former roadie and now protector, who is also mistaken for an intergalactic outlaw. Unlike the famous feline, Popbot is someone whose path you don't want to cross - even on a sunny day. This is a 48 page, self-contained adventure in modern pulp fiction that leaves the door wide open for more.

Popbot #1 is written and drawn by Ashley Wood, the popular artist of Uncanny X-Men, HellSpawn, and Wildstorm's upcoming Automatic Kafka. Popbot also contains material from other noted artists that Wood admires, and future contributors will include Mike Mignola and David Mack.

Popbot #1 will be published by Idea + Design Works in January 2001. It's 48 duo-tone pages and retails for $7.99.
