Aside from its marriage stunts, its controversy courting and its everyday teenage hijinx, Archie Comics is known well in comic shops for its send ups of pop culture trends, from fairy tales to modern politics to science fiction.
Today, the publisher released their latest heroic spoof exclusively to CBR in the form of "Archie" #648's Thor-centric solicitation. Written by longtime Marvel Comics "Thor" scribe Tom DeFalco, the issue will feature a variant cover by legendary artist Walter Simonson-- a team-up no doubt meant to invoke the spirit of the superhero take on the character ahead of the debut of "Thor: The Dark World" in theaters whilst homaging Simonson's own epic "Thor" run from the '80s.
Check out both the standard cover by Fernando Ruiz and Simonson's variant along with the full solicit text for the October issue below.
Archie in “ARCHIE, Clod of Thunder!”— Get ready for entertainment in this hilarious superhero parody by comics legend Tom DeFalco! “Master of the Storm” Archie resides in Allgood, an honorable city over the Rainbow Bridge, where the food is plentiful, the girls are heavenly, and everything is absolutely… boring! Turns out that being an immortal warrior isn’t as fun as people might think. When Archie finds himself in trouble, thanks to a prank of his brother Reggie the Wicked, his father banishes Archie to Planet Earth—to the town of Riverdale, USA to be exact! Will Archie be able to dutifully serve out his punishment? Or will he find life on Earth to be just the excitement he was looking for? Features an extra-special variant cover by Mighty Thor mastermind Walter Simonson!
