CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

Anthony Mackie spoke with Entertainment Weekly about his role as the Falcon in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and what viewers can expect from the film version of the character.

“The most important thing I got from everybody at Marvel about the Falcon was the need to show that he’s a very righteous, man-forward kind of guy," Mackie told EW. "He would do anything to protect the man next to him and to protect his country. That’s the integrity of the character and the integrity of the man and that that’s what I have focused on.”

MAN OF STEEL

Empire Online's latest podcast is with "Man of Steel" director Zack Snyder and screenwriter David S. Goyer, who speak at length about the film, so there are some massive spoilers. But the folks over at ComicBook.com have transcribed a quote that's particularly interesting about the film's ending. Be warned, massive spoilers follow.

"Killing Zod was a big thing and Chris Nolan, originally, said there’s no way you can do this," Goyer said. "That was a change -- originally Zod got sucked into the Phantom Zone along with the others and I just felt it was unsatisfying and so did Zack. We started questioning -- we talked to some of the people at DC Comics and said, 'Do you think there is ever a way that Superman would kill someone?' And at first they said 'No way, no way,' and we said, 'But what if he didn’t have a choice?' Originally Chris didn’t even want to let us try to write it and Zack and I said, 'We think we can figure out a way that you’ll buy it.'"

Now in theaters

ARCHIE

Archie Comics co-CEO Jon Goldwater spoke with CBR about the live-action "Archie" film written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and directed by Jason Moore.

"Our vision creatively is a very John Hughes-ian Archie film. It's in the spirit of 'Ferris Bueller' and 'Sixteen Candles,' and I know Roberto and Jason share that exact same vision," Goldwater told CBR. "To hear them discuss their vision for the movie is so inspiring to me. It's unbelievable. And you're right that this is a little 'Pitch Perfect' and kind of 'Glee,' but it's also a lot of John Hughes. Hollywood lore is rife with the fact that John Hughes was a huge Archie fan. A lot of what he did was inspired by Archie history and Archie IP. So we're going to embrace his genius and hopefully make our own movie that's unique, interesting and fun with its own flavor. But it'll be very 'Ferris Bueller.' That's the vision we have for the movie."

Goldwater also stated that Archie will be coming back to the world of animation.

"'Sabrina' debuts this fall in animation on The Hub. I think it's coming in late September. And there will be Archie animation coming, as well as the "Archie" movie," Goldwater told CBR. "We haven't announced the Archie animation yet, so maybe I shouldn't have said anything, but it is coming, so what the heck. I just said it! [Laughter]"

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

In an interesting bout of future sight, Sony has set release dates for "Amazing Spider-Man 3" and "Amazing Spider-Man 4" nearly a year before "Amazing Spider-Man 2" hits theaters. The third movie will hit theaters June 10, 2016 and the fourth releases May 4, 2018. No word on the cast and crew makeup of the films, or even if they're officially going to happen -- but Sony setting aside dates for the films' release mean the studio is probably pretty dedicated to making sure the franchise continues.

HIGHLANDER

According to The Wrap, Ryan Reynolds has left Summit Entertainment's remake of "The Highlander." Reynolds' exit follows that of previous director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo in November 2012, leaving producers Neal Moritz and Peter Davis with a giant reset button on the project.

KICK-ASS 2

Universal Pictures has released a new international trailer for "Kick-Ass 2" that has some new footage of Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl kicking ass.
