Kick-Ass 2

"Kick-Ass 2" failed to kick much ass at the box office this weekend, opening with $13.6 million domestically, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The first "Kick Ass" film brought in $19.8 million in April of 2010.

Based on the comic book by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr., "Kick-Ass 2" tied for third place at the North American box office, bringing in roughly the same amount as "Elysium," which opened last week. Internationally, the film brought in an additional $6.3 million in 17 territories, and it will open in another 17 next weekend.

This week's big winner at the box office was "Lee Daniels’ The Butler," which took the top spot at the North American box office with $25 million. The film, which received generally favorable reviews from critics, tells the story of Eugene Allen, who served as a butler in the White House from the 1950s through the mid-1980s.

Coming in at No. 2 in North America was "We're the Millers," which brought in $17.8 million in its second week. The comedy, which stars Jason Sudeikis and Jennifer Aniston, has brought in $69.5 million since it opened.

Rounding out the top five was the Disney movie "Planes," which brought in $13.1 million for the weekend and has made $45.1 million since it opened.

The weekend's other two openers both failed to break into the top five. "Jobs," the biographical film about Apple founder Steve Jobs that stars Ashton Kushner, came in at No. 7 with $6.7 million, while "Paranoia," which stars Gary Oldman, Harrison Ford, Liam Hemsworth, failed to even crack the top 10, bringing in just $3.5 million.
