In preparation for the September 24 release of "Scribblenauts Unmasked," WB Games, 5TH Cell and DC Entertainment have provided CBR with a series of homage covers using the "Scribblenauts" DC characters recreating of some of the publisher's most iconic covers.
The introduction of Starro was heralded by one of the most memorable covers in DC's history. The image of the Justice League (sans Superman and Batman) in their first appearance fighting the five-limbed, mind-controlling starfish from space is instantly recognizable to comics readers, so it's understandable that today's "Scribblenauts Unmasked" cover would take on the image. Although the scope of Starro as compared to the Justice League is a little lost in the "Scribblenauts" adaptation, the homage is undeniably fun, adding in some nice effects like Flash speeding through the lower right corner.
A "Scribblenauts Unmasked" digital comic will also be available via comiXology for those that purchase the game. The toy enthusiasts out there may also be interested in DC's blind box "Scribblenauts" vinyl figures, available in March.
"'Scribblenauts' is one of the most unique games ever created due to the amount of objects we put in the game, and the unique way that players can interact with those objects via Maxwell's magic notebook," 5TH Cell Senior Producer Caleb Arseneaux told CBR News earlier this month. "When we looked at the DC Universe, we saw an equally huge number of characters and objects that we felt players would love to interact with in a new way. We've added over 2000 DC Universe objects to the game, ranging from Superman to Bizarro to vehicles used by obscure characters."
Check back every day until September 24 for a new cover homage using the trademark "Scribblenauts" style.
"Scribblenauts Unmasked" releases September 24 for Nintendo 3DS, Wii U and PC.
