Marvel Studios released the first full trailer for "Guardians of the Galaxy" Tuesday night via an appearance from star Chris Pratt on "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

The two-and-a-half minute clip provides fans with the longest look yet at the unconventional, space-faring team. Each member -- Star-Lord (Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (voice of Bradley Cooper) and Groot (voice of Vin Diesel) -- is introduced in the trailer, though descriptions given by Rhomann Dey (John C. Reilly) to another Nova Corps officer (Peter Serafinowicz). "They call themselves the 'Guardians of the Galaxy,'" Dey says. "What a bunch of a-holes," Serafinowicz's character answers.

Much of the trailer was similar to footage first previewed last year at Comic-Con International in San Diego and Disney's D23 Expo in Anaheim, along with a glimpse of Djimon Hounsou as Korath, first seen in the 15-second teaser released earlier on Tuesday.

Directed by James Gunn, "Guardians of the Galaxy" is scheduled for release on Aug. 1. Here's the official synopsis for the film:

From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team -- the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits -- Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace is poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand -- with the galaxy's fate in the balance.
