Official Press Release

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. (October 23, 2001) Publisher Larry Young announced

today that his publishing house has signed an exclusive book trade

distribution deal with LPC Group. The two-year old San Francisco

publishing company has joined LPC Group's roster of graphic novel

publishers, which includes Dark Horse, Image, and Oni Press.

"The vision we've had for the company has always been a 'what's the

next-level?' sort of growth path," said Young. "And contracting a

respected distributor to the book trade has always been part of the

plan. Working with LPC Group is definitely one of those next-level

things for us."

Co-publisher Mimi Rosenheim agreed. "We'd been taking some cautionary

steps towards fulfilling book trade orders ourselves, but it was obvious

that as we continued our aggressive marketing strategies that real-world

awareness of our line was starting to outstrip our ability to physically

meet demand. I started doing research into book-trade distributors to

approach with our line and LPC Group's name kept coming up as an

industry leader."

AiT/Planet Lar has previously sold into the book trade by working

directly with a small number of independent shops, moving books to

online booksellers, and continuing with regional chain store buyers

whose relationships had been developed in the short two years AiT/Planet

Lar has been publishing. "We've been moving books through,

and through library outreaches, but LPC will give us visibility at book

trade events, and I tell you, I just couldn't be happier about gaining

this larger audience for the books we publish," said Young.

The president of LPC Group, David Wilk, said, "We're delighted to have

AiT/Planet Lar on board with LPC Group. They have some of the key

features we look for in a publisher -- a growth-oriented publishing

plan, aggressive promotion and marketing, and a killer backlist."

AiT/Planet Lar is expecting this deal to expand the company's presence

further into the book trade while, at the same time, maintain its

established and valued specialty store sales through domestic

distributors Diamond Comic Distributors, Cold Cut Comics, and FM

International, as well as with the UK distributor Red Route

Distribution. Distribution to the comic book direct market will

continue, uninterrupted.

Upcoming original graphic novels and trade paperback collections

available soon from AiT/Planet Lar include Warren (Transmetropolitan)

Ellis' hardcover collection of photography and prose, Available Light;

Brian (Channel Zero) Wood's coffee-table art book Public Domain; Charlie

(The X-Files) Adlard's World War I tale White Death, and publisher

Young's own rumination on the superhero archetype, Planet of the Capes.
