Marvel.com reports that actor, comedian and epic filibusterer Patton Oswalt has been tapped to serve as one of Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Oswalt will play Agent Eric Koenig, a character whose roots in the Marvel U go as far back as "Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos" #27 in 1966. A self-professed lover of all things comics, Oswalt was understandably excited to suit up and join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"When they first told me the character’s name, I’ll admit the first thing I did is I went on Wikipedia and looked up the M.O.D.O.K. character to see if Koenig was maybe his name before he became M.O.D.O.K., but it wasn’t,” Oswalt told Marvel.com, laughing. “They keep on talking about the Clairvoyant in the show and I’m like, ‘is that M.O.D.O.K.? Am I M.O.D.O.K.?”

Oswalt is the latest guest star to be slated for appearance on "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," joining Bill Paxton's John Garrett and Adrian Pasdar's Glenn Talbot.

While Oswalt has had many credits in both television and film, including "Ratatouille," "The Heart She Holler" and "King of Queens," most comic book will remember his epic filibuster during his guest spot on "Parks and Recreation," where he pitched his idea for J.J. Abrams' upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VII" that united the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Star Wars Universe in one epic film.

Although, now that Oswalt himself is a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his pitch for the second movie in Abrams' "Star Wars" trilogy will probably include a pretty large role for Eric Koenig.
