Paul Levitz has confirmed that he has left the writing team for "Earth 2: World's End."

Although there were rumors about Paul Levitz leaving the "Earth 2: World's End" writing team, there was no confirmation from the publisher as to the longtime DC writer's status on the weekly series. However, in an interview with CBR News, Levitz both confirmed he was no longer involved in duties for "World's End," and stated there will be a massive format change to "Worlds' Finest."

"The biggest thing with 'Worlds' Finest' is [Power Girl and Huntress] aren’t going to be in it for a while!" Levitz told CBR. "They’re off on Earth 2 and they’ll be in the 'Earth 2: World’s End' weekly and someone else will be guiding their destiny for a while. We’ll see what happens to them, but I imagine they’ll have a very challenging time -- with a title like 'World's End' that’s some pretty scary stuff, I suspect! But 'Worlds' Finest' will continue, and the guys were kind enough to throw me the challenge of saying, 'We've never really told that much about the stories of the Earth 2 Superman and Batman that exist now, so why don’t you be Worlds' Finest traditional and tell some stories about those guys for a while?'

"I’m going to stick on 'Worlds’ Finest' and maybe some other projects; ultimately I decided that the structure of the 'World's End' weekly just wasn't ideal for me at this time," Levitz continued. "I wish them well with it, I hope fans have fun with them -- these weeklies are very interesting challenges, but it just wasn’t the right thing for me to be doing at this moment."

Announced in April, "World's End" is set to debut in October, with an announced creative team of writers Daniel H. Wilson, Tom Taylor, Paul Levitz, Marguerite Bennett and Mike Johnson; and artists Eddy Barrows, Jorge Jimenez, Stephen Segovia, Paulo Siqueira and Tyler Kirkham. With Levitz leaving the title, it's unknown as to whether another writer will fill the void.

Levitz started writing "Worlds' Finest" when it launched as part of DC's Second Wave of the New 52, alongside "Earth 2," "Dial H," "G.I Combat," "The Ravagers" and "Batman Incorporated." Currently serving on the board of BOOM! Studios, Levitz stated in March that he would continue writing for DC Comics "as long as they'll have me."

Stay tuned for CBR's full interview with Levitz on "Worlds' Finest" next week.
