Mutants proved to be magnetic at the box office this weekend, not only in North America but around the world.

Variety reports that Fox's "X-Men: Days of Future Past" brought in an estimated $261.8 million globally this weekend, the best global opening for the franchise thus far.

Domestically the film brought in an estimated $90.7 million over the last three days, and is looking at a $110 million Memorial Day weekend in North America. Overseas the film took the No. 1 spot in all 119 countries where it debuted, bringing in an estimated international total of $171.1 million.

Directed by Bryan Singer and based on the storyline from "Uncanny X-Men" #141-142 by Chris Claremont, John Byrne and Terry Austin, the film brings together cast members from the first three films with those from "X-Men: First Class," including Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Nicholas Hoult, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart.

Looking at the rest of the domestic box office, last week's big opener "Godzilla" came in at No. 2 with an estimated $31.4 million. So far the film has made $148 million in North America and more than $300 million globally.
