"Moon Knight" sketch by Greg Smallwood.

Marvel has made its next "Moon Knight" creative team official: Writer Brian Wood and artist Greg Smallwood, as first revealed by Newsarama. Wood and Smallwood take over the book with September's issue #7, following this completion of Warren Ellis and Declan Shalvey's six-issue run. Colorist Jordie Bellaire will remain on the series.

In an interview with Newsarama, Wood indicated that the basic structure of the series will remain the same -- including one-issue stories, with #7 taking place during a blackout in New York City.

"There's literally nothing wrong with this book," Wood said. "No one, myself included, sees any sense in tinkering with the formula. I think my stories are less supernatural than Warren's -- to whatever extent his are supernatural... he has his moments -- and more political, more military, but I'm just really trying hard to maintain the feel and the reading experience everyone's been enjoying."

This is the first Marvel ongoing series for Smallwood, who's best known for his work with Jai Nitz on Dark Horse Comics' "Dream Thief."

"I might have been a little out of my element on a traditional super hero book but Moon Knight's blend of crime and the supernatural makes it a perfect fit for me," said Smallwood, who drew a story in last December's "A+X" #17. I got the call from Nick Lowe and I immediately said yes. There was no way I could turn down an opportunity to work with Brian Wood and Jordie Bellaire on a comic this good."

Wood's "X-Men" run wraps in July with issue #17. "Moon Knight" is the first new project at Marvel for the writer after sexual harassment allegations against him became public last fall.

Wood and Shalvey's run on "Moon Knight," the latest volume starring the often unstable vigilante, launched in March as part of the "All-New Marvel NOW!" initiative. Wood following Ellis on "Moon Knight" is something of a full-circle moment -- Wood's Marvel career began in 2000, co-writing "Generation X" with Ellis.
