The one, two punch of "Original Sin" and "Amazing Spider-Man" powered Marvel Comics to the top of the direct market sales charts in May, according to Diamond. The publisher's latest event doubled down, landing in slots #1 and 6, while Spidey took #2 and 3. DC's "Batman" remains its top title, in the #4 position, while the finale of "Forever Evil and its crossovers ended up at #5 and 7 while "New 52 Futures End" debuted at #9 and the weekly "Batman Eternal" made an appearance at #10. Meanwhile, Image's "The Walking Dead" returned to the top ten, shambling into the #8 slot.

Overall sales were down, both from a month earlier and in the year-to-year comparison, though the comparisons are affected by May 2014 having only four Wednesdays compared to April 2014 and May 2013's five. Marvel was once again the top publisher in both dollar and units, though DC did close the gap over the previous month. Image remained the #3 publisher, while IDW and Dark Horse, who both saw their percentage increase from May, flipped positions, ranking #4 and 5.

The first "Black Science" collection continued Image's recent run of successful trade paperback debuts, landing in the #3 position for the month, while current volumes of "Manifest Destiny" "Saga" and "Manhattan Projects" all placed in the top ten. Marvel's "X-Men: No More Humans" and DC's "Black Canary and Zatanna" original graphic novels debuted at #4 and 5, respectively.
