While "22 Jump Street" and "How to Train Your Dragon 2" vied for the top spot at the North American box office, "X-Men: Days of Future Past" continued its strong run with an estimated $9.5 million this weekend -- enough to push it over the $200 million mark to an estimated $205.9 million domestic total.

That puts the film in exclusive company as one of only three movies to pass the $200 million mark domestically in 2014, a club that includes "The Lego Movie" and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" -- both of which have made a little more than $256 million during their North American runs. "Amazing Spider-Man 2," in contrast, would need to make another $2 million to apply for membership, while "Godzilla" would need about $9 million.

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" has made an estimated $633.9 million worldwide.

Battle of the sequels

Looking at the rest of the North American box office, "22 Jump Street," the sequel to the 2012 film "21 Jump Street," took the No. 1 spot with an estimated $60 million. Coming in at No. 2 was "How to Train Your Dragon 2," the animated sequel to the 2010 movie of the same name. It made an estimated $50 million in its opening weekend.

The Disney family film "Maleficent" brought in an estimated $19 million, bringing its three-week total to $163.5 million, while the Tom Cruise sci-fi film "Edge of Tomorrow" made an estimated $16 million in its second week, bringing its total to $56.6 million. Last week's No. 1 film, "The Fault in our Stars," dropped hard to the No. 5 spot with an estimated $15.7 million. So far it's made $81.7 million.
