Last week, Marvel Comics announced "Superior Iron Man" -- the next era in the life of Tony Stark, and along with the new, female Thor and Falcon taking over the mantle of Captain America, a major part of the publisher's Avengers NOW! initiative.

"Remember what happened the last time we announced that a Marvel character was going to go 'Superior?'" editor-in-chief Axel Alonso asked in the his latest Axel in Charge feature, referring to Doctor Octopus' taking over of Peter Parker's mind, body and costumed identity. "Well, Tony Stark is probably one of the more flawed superheroes out there. He's vice-prone, egotistical and bit vain, and he knows he's the smartest guy in any room he walks into. He's a complicated genius. So what happens when that genius is completely let loose? When he taps into it in ways that he hasn't before? The "superior" Iron Man is Tony Stark like you've never seen him before, succumbing to his id and his enormous ego -- with great ramifications for the world. Tom Taylor, who's done great work on the DC series "Injustice" is writing it, it's bound to be debated, and it's going to put Tony at odds with some of his peers."
