The cast of "Arrow" season three continues to grow, with The Hollywood Reporter sharing Thursday that actor Nolan Funk has been cast as the hacker ex-boyfriend of Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) from her time at MIT. Named Cooper Seldon, Funk will appear in the fifth episode of the DC Comics-based CW show's new season, titled "The Secret Origin of Felicity Smoak."
THR notes that it's unclear if the character will appear in flashbacks or the present day; additionally, it has not been specified if Funk will appear beyond the one announced episode. Rickards posted an on-set Instagram Thursday showing that things may have gotten slightly out of hand early into Funk's time on the series.
Funk, 28, has been acting on-screen for more than a decade, with recent TV roles on "Awkward" and "Glee," plus a role in 2013's Vin Diesel-led action film "Riddick." This isn't his first time with comic book-based material, either -- he appeared in the minor role of "Captured X-Kid" in 2003's "X2."
The actor is one of many new additions to the show in its third season, including Brandon Routh as the Atom/Ray Palmer, J.R. Ramirez as Wildcat/Ted Grant and Charlotte Ross as Felicity's mother. John Barrowman, who has played Malcolm Merlyn since "Arrow" Season 1, has been upgraded to series regular.
The third season of "Arrow" is set to premiere at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8 on The CW.
