In the early hours of New York Comic Con, IDW made some outrageous news. You might even say its truly, truly, truly outrageous.

This morning at a Diamond retailer breakfast, the publisher announced that it will soon publish comics based on beloved '80s rock-n-roll adventure cartoon "Jem and the Holograms." And this afternoon, the publisher shared a teaser for the series exclusively with CBR:

JEM NYCC 2014 Teaser

While a creative team and release date has yet to be announced, it's safe to say that IDW's "Jem" comics will arrive ahead of director Jon M. Chu's currently-in-production big-screen adaptation. The comic will mark the latest collaboration between the publisher and Hasbro – owners of other beloved '80s properties including G.I. Joe and Transformers.

Created in 1985 by animation veteran (and recent DC Comics writer) Christy Marx, "Jem and the Holograms" told the story of the titular rock star (also known as music executive Jerrica Benton) and her radical pink hair as she and her bandmates would tour the world and clash with rival rockers The Misfits (not the Danzig ones).

Stay tuned to CBR News for more on IDW's "Jem" and more from New York Comic Con, as it happens.
