Official Press Release

Platinum Studios is proud to announce that the winning entry in the 2006 Comic Book Challenge, Hero By Night, will be hitting store shelves on March 21, 2007. This will be the first issue of a four-issue monthly miniseries.

The story revolves around Jack King, who finds the lair of a vanished superhero in his apartment building and decides to auction off some of the memorabilia. But, Jack's efforts to cash in attract the attention of the hero's arch-enemy -- a villain even the Hero By Night couldn't destroy.

While working on the four-part miniseries, D.J. Coffman has also created the Hero By Night Journals, the web comic featured on DrunkDuck.com, featuring the tales of the original Hero By Night, David Ray. The journals will lead into Hero By Night #1.

"The online feedback for the web comic has been amazing," said Coffman, creator of Hero By Night. "Readers really seem to be embracing this project, and it has been a humbling experience for me. Platinum Studios has been really easy to work with, and their guidance on the project has been invaluable."

The four-part miniseries will run from March through June, leading up to the 2007 Comic Book Challenge. Details on the next Challenge will be released later in March.

"D.J. is one of the greatest raw talents I've ever worked with," said Platinum Studios Comics Editor-in-Chief Jim McLauchlin. "His first time right out of the box, he came up with a great tale that takes place squarely in the modern world, but that has a classic, Golden Age feel at the same time. His instincts and innate abilities are just amazing."

Coffman and Hero By Night colorist Jason Embury will also be attending Wizard World Los Angeles, to autograph copies of Hero By Night #1 at the Golden Apple Booth (#707), on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. They will be in the DrunkDuck Pavilion of Artist Alley the rest of the weekend.
