NEW YORK, NY - Scholastic's award-winning artists, authors, and editors are heading to San Diego for the 2005 Comic-Con International. The event will be held at the San Diego Convention Center from Thursday, July 14 through Sunday, July 17. Last year the convention drew over 80,000 fans, artists, and professionals.

Hot off the enormously successful launch of the innovative Graphix™ imprint and the publication of Jeff Smith's full-color Bone #1, Scholastic will make its first Comic-Con exhibition appearance this year. "Not only is Comic-Con a great way for us to connect with fans of comics," says David Saylor, Graphix creative director, "it's also a great way for Scholastic to let comic book fans know about the amazing books we're creating for children in all formats. We want to hear from fans of our books, meet talented artists, and get energized by the excitement of this huge pop-culture event."

When establishing the foundation of the Graphix imprint, Scholastic turned to Jeff Smith's award-winning series Bone. With the release of the full-color Bone #1: Out From Boneville in February 2005, it was immediately clear that Jeff Smith's epic tale appealed just as strongly to children as it had to adults. At present, Scholastic has over 100,000 Bone books in print. Bone #2: The Great Cow Race will be released in August to this expanding cross-generational audience. Jeff Smith will sign copies of Bone #2: The Great Cow Race in the Scholastic Booth #2301 from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 16th. At the close of the signing a piece of original artwork will be raffled off to one lucky fan. Bone giveaways and a special sneak preview of Telltale Game's Bone videogame will all take place in the Scholastic Booth during the convention.

Scholastic will also use this year's Comic-Con as an occasion to celebrate the talents of all its graphic novel artists and authors through signings, book giveaways, and an exciting panel presentation. The panel, Graphix - Bringing Great Comics to Kids on Saturday, July 16, offers Con attendees an insider look at Scholastic's fantastic editorial, creative, and artistic talent as they talk about what's happening next with this revolutionary imprint. And for attendees who want even more, they'll have the chance to meet everyone from the legendary Jeff Smith to the up-and-coming cartoonist Raina Telgemeier at one of the five autographing sessions in the Scholastic Booth #2301:
